The SPACE is committed to following all municipal, provincial, and federal guidelines to help keep our students and staff safe. We are limiting our class sizes to 8 students + staff to maintain social distancing in the studio, implementing health checks before entering the studio and hand washing upon arrival, and increasing our cleaning schedule. Linette continues to work with studio owners across Ontario to draft and implement Dance Safe guidelines, and is staying up to date on any changes needed so that everyone can stay safe.

Before arriving at the studio, each student will need to complete a health check. Screening forms will be emailed to all students, and must be completed and emailed to the studio each time that students are coming in to the studio. Staff will also complete a screening form each time they come to the studio to teach. For those who are unable to complete the screening and email it before arriving for class, a health check screening will be done in person before students are admitted to the studio. Please email your screening form before arriving at the studio, as it will save time admitting students in for class. Anyone who is not feeling well must stay home, and should self-isolate for 14 days before returning to the studio.

Everyone must wash their hands upon arrival at the studio, and maintain social distancing at all times. After completing their health screening, students will enter one at a time to wash their hands, and then go directly to their designated spot in the studio. The floor is taped out so each student has their own clearly marked dance space 6′ away from everyone else. Younger children will also see their names in their spots before they come in.

Students will also have a designated spot for their water bottle, and will take turns getting drinks to maintain social distancing. Please try to arrive at the studio dressed for class to eliminate extra items being brought into the studio; ideally, bring only your water bottle and dance shoes to class. If it is absolutely necessary to bring bags or coats into the studio, they must be left in the designated spot for that student.

Weather permitting, our front door will remain open to increase airflow and decrease the risk associated with enclosed spaces. A barrier will be placed in the entrance to the lobby, as our lobby remains closed. Parents are asked to wait outside for pick up and drop off. Dismissal will be coordinated so that everyone can maintain social distancing while they’re in the studio.

Our studio is thoroughly cleaned each day, and high touch surfaces like ballet barres, hand rails, doorknobs, and light switches are cleaned more frequently. All class times will begin 5 minutes later and end 5 minutes earlier than scheduled in order to allow for sanitizing of high touch areas between each class.

In accordance with City of Toronto bylaws, everyone coming into the studio needs to wear a mask. Masks are not required while actively engaged in physical activity, and may be removed during dance classes. Adult students may choose whether or not to wear a mask while dancing, and parents should decide what they feel is best for their children in class. Staff will all wear a mask and/or a face shield while teaching; in the event that a face covering must be removed in order to demonstrate correct technique, it will be replaced as soon as possible, and social distancing will be maintained throughout the demonstration.

We have prerecorded YouTube videos and Zoom class options for anyone who prefers to stay at home, isn’t feeling well, or needs to be at home because they may have been exposed to COVID-19. Students will each receive an At Home Kit with special activities and exercises to help enhance what they’re learning at home when they’re unable to come to the studio. We also have One On One Wednesdays where students can schedule private online instruction at no extra charge while they’re at home. All classes will be conducted virtually when government restrictions prohibit in person classes at the studio.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to fit or size students in class for shoes and/or dancewear. Please book a fitting time if you need shoes or dancewear for class. We are booking 20 minute appointments and leaving 10 minutes at the end of each appointment to clean before anyone else comes in. A health screening form must be submitted for each person coming into the studio, and masks must be worn in accordance with City of Toronto bylaws. To limit the number of people coming into the studio, only one parent may accompany their child to a fitting. Please wear close fitting clothing similar to dancewear so we can get the most accurate measurements – a leotard and leggings or a bathing suit and bike shorts work well. In order to fit students properly, it may not be possible to maintain social distancing at all times. Parents will be asked to measure their child wherever possible, and our staff will help guide you through the process. Staff will wear a mask, face shield, and gloves for fittings. If our staff need to be close to take or check measurements, we will do our best to keep touching to a minimum and be as brief as possible.

If you have any questions about our COVID-19 policies, or anything else at The SPACE, please email me at for more information.  I know things are still going to feel different this year, but I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone back in the studio!
