Focused on building
self-esteem.

The S.P.A.C.E. (The School of Performing Arts for the Community of East York) is a full performing arts centre focused on building self-esteem. We encourage students to dream, challenge them to develop determination and perseverance along with technique and give them the confidence both to get up on stage and perform, and to believe in themselves.

My name is Linette Doherty, and I founded The S.P.A.C.E. in 2004 as a place where students can learn from industry professionals in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

Whether you’re serious about pursuing the arts, or just want to learn something new, the experience of our staff of qualified, trained, professional actors, dancers, and singers offers a unique and exciting opportunity to you and your family – the chance to learn about the world of performing from actual working performers.

During studio hours (please see Class Schedule), I invite you to drop by to meet our staff and to observe classes. You’ll see that The S.P.A.C.E. provides quality performing arts instruction that focuses on building self–esteem in each student, and you’ll see classes in action, which is a great way to tell if a class is right for you. Whether you love to dance, sing, or act; if you’re three or seventy–three, we’ve got the class that’s sure to be just right for you. I hope you’ll visit us soon to see all that we offer!

Our goal is to foster a genuine love of the performing arts in each student. The S.P.A.C.E. is a small, but growing studio, with classes of no more than 12 students to ensure that everyone receives the individual attention they need to become the very best performer they can be. Students perform twice a year, at our Christmas show and at our Annual Year End Show in June. Serious about performing? You can also audition for our Student Performing Artist Company Ensemble. Some of Toronto’s top talent – guest directors, choreographers, and music directors – work with Company members on numbers for the Christmas show, the Year End Show, in studio events, and local community performances.
